Barbara Rumora - Scheltema specialises in corporate and commercial litigation and insolvency law, advising and litigating for both national and international clients.
She is a member of the core team that is acting for Yukos and its subsidiaries, advising them on aspects of Dutch law in their fight against the Russian state and representing them in several proceedings in the Netherlands, some of which have resulted in groundbreaking decisions by the Dutch courts. She has also advised and litigated on aspects of Dutch law in relation to the insolvencies of Lehman Brothers, Carrier1, Calpine, the Swissair Group, Argo Pantes and others.
Barbara is a member of INSOL Europe, of the Dutch Association of Insolvency Lawyers (Insolad) and of the Dutch Corporate Litigation Association (Vereniging Corporate Litigation). She is recommended as a restructuring and insolvency practitioner by Pritchard's Legal 500, which states that Clients also pick out the 'clearly extremely talented' Barbara Rumora-Scheltema as 'the best of the best'.
Barbara initially joined NautaDutilh as a professional support lawyer in the areas of corporate and commercial law, holding that position until May 2005. In that capacity, she organised numerous activities and events to update and extend the knowledge of legislation and case law in these fields among both NautaDutilh lawyers and their clients. As a practising lawyer, Barbara has continued to be active on the legal know-how front, presenting several internal and external courses and workshops. She was one of the main organisers of the highly publicised November 2004 conference 'On the way to a single European capital market' and of the February 2008 seminar on the consequences for banks of the draft bill for a new Insolvency Act.
Barbara is a graduate of the law faculty of the University of Amsterdam and joined NautaDutilh in 2001.
