Jean-Michel Schmit is a partner in our Luxembourg corporate practice. He is also a member of the firm's German Desk. Jean-Michel is an experienced transaction lawyer advising major international corporations, large private equity and investment firms, as well as institutions and asset managers.

He has substantial experience in corporate law, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and corporate restructurings, as well as capital markets, corporate finance and insolvency. He also works closely with the firm's investment management practice on the setting up of unregulated and lightly regulated private funds and acquisition structures.

Jean-Michel graduated from the Université Panthéon-Assas (Paris II) and obtained a master's degree in business law from the University Panthéon-Sorbonne. He also holds an LL.M. from Cambridge University. Jean-Michel was admitted to the Luxembourg bar in 1997. After practicing for eleven years with one of the largest UK law firms, he joined NautaDutilh as a partner in March 2008.

Jean-Michel regularly speaks at seminars and has authored a large number of legal publications. He is notably a member of the drafting committee of the Luxembourg law magazine ACE, published by Kluwer. Jean-Michel is also a member of the private equity working group of ALFI (Association of the Luxembourg Fund Industry).

In the 2013 edition of the Legal 500, Jean-Michel is recommended for corporate and M&A work. Chambers refers to him as a 'key corporate contact at NautaDutilh'. He has also been nominated and selected as Luxembourg's leading practitioner in mergers and acquisitions as well as in real estate by Who's Who Legal.

Jean-Michel is fluent in English, French, German and Luxembourgish.
