Arjen Praat and Keri van Ettekoven wrote an article for the magazine Vastgoed Fiscaal & Civiel on the Dutch and European climate targets in relation to the current and future property-related regulations.

The climate targets for 2030 and 2050 in the Dutch Climate Act are out of sight, concluded  the Advisory Division of the Council of State (Afdeling advisering van de Raad van State) in its consideration of the Policy Document on Climate Change 2021 (Klimaatnota). Immediate action is necessary. What sustainability requirements apply to the real estate practice and (why) is this (not) sufficient?

In this article, Keri and Arjen answer that question by discussing the legal framework for the climate targets and sustainability requirements and by looking at a number of sustainability requirements relevant to real estate practice. They also give a brief preview of the goals and assignments the Dutch government is facing.
