In yesterday's issue of Het Financieele Dagblad, Gerard Meijer was interviewed on the  investor-state dispute settlement procedure which is ingrained in Ceta, the free trade agreement between Canada and the EU.

Gerard points to the European Commission's annual study that measures how much citizens and businesses trust their legal system. According to the 2016 edition of the European Justice Scoreboard countries like the Netherlands and Germany score fine, but for some former Eastern bloc countries it`s a different story. Less than 10 percent of Slovak companies for example regard their legal system as independent. That means, Gerard, says "that Slovakia is close to Ghana."
