NautaDutilh assisted Häfen und Güterverkehr Köln AG (HGK) with its acquisition of the European shipping business of the Imperial Group providing waterway transportation services and port management services, including in the Rotterdam port area. HGK is a German port operator and railway company, with a business focus on rail freight transport, port handling, network maintenance and real estate leasing.

In the Netherlands, the Imperial Group can draw on decades of experience in the field of the inland tanker shipping business, including the management of over 60 modern double-hulled tankers varying in size and onboard equipment, the training of skilled employees, intermediary services between the cargo provider and the skipper, and the transport and chartering of dry cargo, dangerous liquid goods and non-ADN Foods.

The contemplated transaction is subject to customary conditions, including regulatory approval.
