NautaDutilh has assisted the Université Catholique de Louvain (UCL) and its technology transfer and investment company Sopartec set up VIVES II, the largest university technology fund in Europe. VIVES II is a multi-sector fund that finances technological start-ups specialising in eco-innovation. UCL's spin-offs will ensure a flow of deals to VIVES II.
In return, the spin-offs have priority when it comes to accessing the university's technological innovations. VIVES II will provide financial support to around ten companies, in an amount ranging from EUR 200,000 to EUR 4 million. The fund can invest during any of the various stages of a company's development, from inception until expansion.
In addition to financial support, VIVES II will also provide guidance to future entrepreuners on the creation, validation and commercialisation of technology.
