Five years after our first survey, NautaDutilh carried out another survey of the expectations of Belgian TTOs and their spin-offs to see if their 2013 projections were met.

In 2013, Belgian universities estimated that 100 spin-offs would be created by 2018. Five years later, it appears that the nine Flemish and Walloon universities surveyed (VUB, ULB, KUL, UCL, UA, UNAMUR, UHasselt, ULiège and UGent) created almost twice as many spin-offs, namely 183. Indeed, increasing interest and financial support from funds and multinationals for promising projects allowed Belgian universities to launch more spin-offs than initially projected.

Belgium's leading business newspapers, l'Echo and De Tijd, both covered the survey which even appeared on the front page of l'Echo.

In 2013, the survey appeared on the front page of De Tijd. You can read the results of the 2013 survey here.
