In the latest issue of Mr. Magazine, Petra Zijp reacts to Minister Dekker's recent appeal that commercial law firms should also take responsibility for providing legal aid to people with limited means. "We share the minister's worries that these people's access to the law can be hampered," Petra says. "But this does not alter the fact that access to the law is a fundamental right that the State should guarantee. Such a key responsibility cannot be transferred to  private parties."

In the letter in which Dekker wrote his appeal - sent to the chair of The House of Representatives - he also said that he's planning to discuss his ideas with commercial law firms. "If the minister is going to contact us, we are looking forward to that conversation," Petra says.
