Our firm assisted Currence Holding B.V. on the sale of iDIN B.V. to Belgian Mobile ID NV (itsme). iDIN, the Dutch identification service established by, among others, ABN Amro, ASN Bank, ING and Rabobank, enables consumers to identify themselves and log in online with various organisations by using their own bank's login methods. iDIN currently has around 300 connected businesses in the Netherlands, with 15 million identification actions performed in 2024.
itsme is a Belgian identity app with over 7 million users and 475 million identification actions in 2024. In Belgium, itsme functions not only as a digital identifier for commercial organisations, but also for government websites, similar to DigiD in the Netherlands. itsme is active in 29 European countries with 1,200 connected businesses. The acquisition marks itsme's first major expansion outside Belgium.
From mid-2026, consumers will be able to use the itsme app alongside their banking app for identification with connected services. In 2028, iDIN will be fully integrated into itsme.
The core NautaDutilh team working on this transaction consisted of Rebecca Pinto, Twan Hamers, Julia Stoeckart (Corporate M&A), Cyril Christiaans (Commercial), Jasmijn van Koetsveld, Mees Veeger (Competition), Jules van de Winckel, Eline Keuning (Corporate Notarial), and Pedro Paraguay (Tax).
