Marieke Faber is a partner in our Litigation and Arbitration practice.

Marieke specialises in corporate and commercial litigation, often with an international dimension. Her practice covers transaction-related disputes, director liability and shareholder disputes, as well as complex commercial disputes. Marieke has extensive experience litigating before the Dutch courts. She also represents clients in arbitration before inter alia the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and the Netherlands Arbitration Institute (NAI).

Marieke is also a member of NautaDutilh's cross-practice Sustainable Business & Climate Change team. She assists companies and financial institutions in addressing sustainability-related legal and strategic challenges. Marieke advises on (emerging) ESG regulation and on ESG-related liability and litigation risks (e.g. greenwashing risks). She frequently speaks and publishes on these topics.

Marieke recently spent almost two years in NautaDutilh's New York office, where she led the firm's Dutch dispute resolution and ESG-related efforts in the US. In 2019, she was seconded to the litigation department of a top-tier US law firm in New York. From 2015 to 2017, she was a board member of the Amsterdam Young Bar Association.

  • Other roles

    Marieke is an active member of the NautaDutilh pro bono community. In 2020, she received the Resilience Award at the Gouden Zandlopers (the most prestigious legal awards in the Netherlands) for setting up a platform to provide pro bono legal assistance to small business owners in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Marieke was also part of the team that represented the Urgenda Foundation against the State of the Netherlands. In a landmark ruling, the State of the Netherlands was ordered to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2020.

  • Qualifications

    Marieke is a graduate of Utrecht University in the Netherlands: LL.B (Hons) and LL.M. She also holds a Masters in Management from London Business School.
