DSM, GSK, Eli Lilly, Sanofi), new risks (Urgenda, Shell), insurance law (AIG, HDI, Amlin, Travelers, AXA, Allianz), as well as collective redress (a.o.     Stijn successfully defended Dutch/UK insurers in a multi-billion euro US asbestos claim and British American Tobacco in the first-ever Dutch tobacco claim. He represented insurers (Aegon, Achmea) in mass claims pertaining to universal life insurances and advised on the coverage of various large directors' liability claims (LyondellBasell Industries, Fortis, Imtech), as well as product recall claims (Philips).

    Stijn lectures product liability law at Grotius Academy, and lectured insurance law at Leiden University for ten years.

    He is a board member of various law associations (Vereniging voor Aansprakelijkheids- en Schadevergoedingsrecht VASR and Vereniging voor Verzekeringswetenschap VvVW), and a member of the editorial staff of legal journals 'Aansprakelijkheid, Verzekering & Schade' (AV&S) and 'Bedrijfsjuridische berichten' (Bb).

  • Qualifications

    Stijn graduated in law from Leiden University in 1992 and obtained a master's degree from the University of London. He joined NautaDutilh in 1994 and became a partner in 2003.

    In 2022, Stijn obtained his doctorate degree at Leiden University on his thesis on the corrective and distributive function of the law of compensation.
