Sebastiaan Hooghiemstra is an associate in our investment funds practice. He assists asset managers, funds promoters, depositary banks and institutional investors in the structuring and setting up of Luxembourg regulated investment fund structures i.e. UCITS, specialised investment funds (SIFs), private equity and venture capital funds (SICARs), as well as unregulated investment vehicles i.e. reserved alternative investment funds (RAIFs).
Sebastiaan holds Bachelor degrees in International & European law (2008), Dutch law (2008) and Master degrees in International Business Law (2009) and Dutch Law (2010) from Tilburg University (The Netherlands); a Master degree in Tax Law from VU University Amsterdam (The Netherlands, 2011) and a Ph.d. in Financial Law from Utrecht University (The Netherlands, 2018).
Prior to joining NautaDutilh Avocats Luxembourg in 2018, he was a Doctoral Candidate at the University of Utrecht and worked as a Research Associate at the University of Liechtenstein. He was a member of the working groups implementing UCITSD IV/V, CRD IV and the AIFMD in Liechtenstein. Sebastiaan also recently advised the European Commission and EIOPA on a regulatory framework for PEPPs and the introduction of an European depositary passport.
He regularly lectures, speaks at (international) conferences and publishes on topics in the field of (European) securities, (international) pension, company and tax law.
Sebastiaan is a native Dutch speaker, fluent in English and German and has moderate knowledge of French.
