Richard van Oerle specialises in the law of trademarks, trade names, protection of trade secrets, advertising, domain names, copyright, designs and unfair competition.
A graduate of what used to be the Catholic University of Nijmegen, Richard joined NautaDutilh in 1981. He studied at the Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Patent, Copyright and Competition Law in Munich in 1983/84 and became a registered mediator in 2000. He is panellist for domain names with WIPO.
Richard has been the Secretary-General and then Vice-President of the International League of Competition Law (LIDC), Vice-Secretary of the Dutch Copyright Association (the Dutch chapter of the international copyright association ALAI) and a member of the Law Committee of the European Community Trademark Association (ECTA) and of the Examining Board of the Benelux Association for Trademark and Design Law. He revised the chapter on trade names in the most recent edition of a book on intellectual property law.
Richard was a partner at NautaDutilh from 1989 until 2005, when he left to become a judge at the District Court of The Hague. He returned to NautaDutilh in 2007.
