Rema primarily focuses on the financial sector, where she assists financial institutions in collective (WAMCA) proceedings and collective settlements. Her expertise includes liability law, duty of care, unfair terms, financial supervision law, and insurance law.

With over 10 years of experience as a LEAN Six Sigma trainer, Rema seamlessly integrates risk management into her practice. In addition to conducting litigation and providing advice, she guides financial institutions in developing legal risk management strategies, determining financial exposure, and implementing collective settlement arrangements. Her legal knowledge and use of risk management models make her a valuable partner for financial institutions.

Rema’s 360° legal risk management approach means she is involved in the process from start to finish: from identifying litigation risks in a portfolio, developing a risk management strategy, to conducting litigation and settlement negotiations, and managing residual risks.

In addition to her work in the financial sector, Rema is co-head of the India Desk, where she supports Indian companies with their investments in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg. Her international experience is further enhanced by her previous role as head of the Litigation Desk in New York and her current role as head of the Litigation Desk in London.

    - Securities lease products: she has represented banks in various mass claims and collective settlements regarding securities lease products, including the implementation of settlement agreements by developing settlement policies for and giving trainings to banks.

    - Interest rate derivatives: she has represented banks in various (individual and mass) claims regarding interest rate derivatives. She developed policy frameworks and project management models to handle large volumes of mass claims and to control the litigation risk.

    - Revolving credits with variable interest rate: she has represented banks in precedent setting rulings and collective settlements regarding revolving credits with variable interest rate.

    - Unit linked insurances: she is representing insurers in, amongst other things, the still increasing number of mass claims and collective settlements pertaining to unit-linked life insurances. She developed litigation models and project management tools to handle high numbers of mass claims and to control the litigation risk.

    - Pension products: she is advising various pension institutions on litigation risk management in respect of the “Wet toekomst pensioenen”.
