David Wumkes is a civil law notary specialised in commercial real estate in the broadest sense. He advises clients on i.e. real estate transactions and financing, project development, division in apartment rights, rights in rem and multiple ground use and other real estate-related contracts. His clients include prominent local real estate asset managers, real estate developers and international clients.

Aside from real estate transaction, financing and complex multiple ground use, David is specialised in the property law aspects of (renewable) energy, such as the structuring of cables and pipelines and solar installations. He has specific expertise of, and track record in, hydrogen projects.

  • Work highlights
    • Advised Circle Infra Partners B.V. (Circle) on property law aspects of infra-assets located at the Chemelot chemical park in Geleen, the Netherlands.
    • Assisted a Dutch pension fund as lead counsel on the acquisition of 154 residential units, measuring more than 11,000 sqm, and 109 parking units in Breda, the Netherlands.
    • Advised Neste Netherlands on property law aspects of its Renewable Jet Fuel (RJF) and Wastewater Treatment (WWT) projects.
    • Advised W.P. Carey on a number of real estate transactions, including renewable energy aspects.
    • Assisted and advised Achmea Dutch Retail Property Fund as lead counsel on the acquisition of two retail portfolios from two Dutch pension funds in exchange for participations in Achmea Dutch Retail Property Fund.
    • Assisted OCAP as lead counsel in the legal structuring of their wide-scale CO2-transport network.
    • Advised Kozuki on the acquisition of the iconic Weesperstaete office building in Amsterdam for EUR 95.7 million.

  • Ancillary functions

    David has been a contributing member of the editorial board of the Magazine for Property Law (Tijdschrift voor Zakenrecht), a magazine for property law professionals, from 2018 to 2025.

    David gives lectures to his clients on a regular basis, among his clients are renowned banks and real estate.

    Davis was a lecturer with the Grotius Academy for four years.

  • Qualifications

    David graduated with honors in Dutch Law and Notarial Law from the University of Utrecht in 2008 and joined NautaDutilh in the same year. David completed the postgraduate course on Real Estate at the Grotius Academy in 2015 (cum laude). David has been appointed as civil law notary by royal decree as of 5 December 2024.

    David has been a member of the board of the Association of Young Real Estate Lawyers for five years, two of which as chairman and he is a member of the Royal Notarial Association.
