Stan publiceert regelmatig bijdragen met betrekking tot insolventie, executie en procesrecht. Hij doceerde ook over deze rechtsdomeinen aan het Instituut voor Insolventierecht van de KU Leuven, waar hij lid van is.

Hij wordt ingeschakeld als getuige-deskundige in Belgisch recht door buitenlandse rechtbanken. Stan trad ook op als deskundige in verschillende wetgevende projecten met betrekking tot insolventie.

Stan is lid van de redactieraad (sectie Insolventie) van het Revue de Droit Commercial/Tijdschrift voor Handelsrecht en andere tijdschriften.

Stan studeerde af aan de KU Leuven in 1993 en werd datzelfde jaar toegelaten tot de Brusselse balie. In 1995 behaalde hij een LL.M aan de University of Chicago. Van 1996 tot 1999 was hij adviseur op het kabinet van de Minister van Justitie. Hij vervoegde NautaDutilh in 2003 en werd partner in 2007.
