NautaDutilh advised two insurance companies of ERGO Group AG, one of Germany's biggest insurers, on the refinancing of the Maas Tower in Rotterdam. The volume of the financing amounts to EUR 140 million and will replace the financing provided by two German Pfandbrief banks. The 165-metre Maas Tower is the tallest office building in the Benelux countries and has a floor space of around 39,000 m². The main tenants are Deloitte, AKD and the Dutch Ministry of Justice.

The transaction was particularly interesting because it was ERGO Group AG's first financing in the Netherlands which means we had to guide them through various topics of Dutch law. We were, however, able to navigate the ERGO team smoothly through the process as they proved to be a great fit for our lead partner Michelle van Doren who is not only a native German speaker but also a German lawyer. "My German skills came in very handy for this transaction, especially the knowledge about both legal systems", explained Michelle van Doren.

The Maastoren transaction was one of two transactions that closed shortly before year-end and were handled for the most part in German by Michelle van Doren. The respective deal teams further consisted of Sicco Gunster, Elise van Berkel, Kees Koetsier and Yvonne Heijkants. NautaDutilh acted alongside Noerr on the Maastoren transaction which shows again how important it is to keep close ties with our 'good friends' in other jurisdictions.
