Freerk Vermeulen

Freerk has been involved in many major cases before the Dutch Supreme Court in the past 20 years. He represented ABN AMRO on appeal and before the Supreme Court in class actions concerning price variation terms of financial products, the Dutch subsidiaries of Yukos Oil Company in a series of Supreme Court proceedings relating to the expropriation of Yukos by the Russian Federation, Urgenda in its climate case against the Dutch government, and ABN AMRO and Rabobank in proceedings relating to interest rate swaps.

• Chambers Europe ranked Freerk as Band 1 in Dispute Resolution: Supreme Court Litigation in 2021. With clients calling him 'one of the best Supreme Court litigation lawyers'.
• Chambers describes Freerk as 'an excellent Supreme Court litigator with an eye for detail and very thorough'.

• Freerk is a founder of the Dutch Association of Civil Supreme Court Lawyers and serves as secretary general of the European Association of Supreme Court Lawyers.
• He is also a member of the Commissie Cassatie of the Dutch Bar Association and the Commissie cassatieberoep in het belang der wet, which advises the Supreme Court on appeals in the interest of uniform application of the law.
• Freerk has been a board member of the Law Firm School and of the Praktizijnssocieteit.
• He sits on the advisory board of the master's programme in international business law: climate change and sustainability at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.
• Freerk frequently speaks and lectures on selected topics of procedural law, banking law and ESG/climate change.

Freerk received his law degree from Utrecht University in 2001. He joined NautaDutilh as a partner in 2009, after spending eight years at another firm.
